Britten’s Canticles contain some of his most haunting music, from the heartfelt pleas, terror and mercy of Abraham & Isaac to the tugging, obsessive repetitions of the Magi recounting their nocturnal winter journey.  This programme places Canticles II and IV alongside music by William Byrd and Palestrina, and the Quatre motets pour le temps de Noel by Poulenc.
