Christ the King – sub-plot: Henry VIII
The second in our three-concert series on the music of Robert Fayrfax and his contemporaries, setting his Latin sacred compositions within the context of the religious and political landscape of early Tudor England.
Henry VIII was a keen musician himself and regarded music as an important propaganda tool. Here some of Fayrfax’s music to Christ is set alongside paeans of praise to Henry VIII himself, the dominating figure of the first half of the 16th century.
